It is difficult to study harasser motives or goals directly.
According to the research,the motives or goals are;
- Traditional gender roles
Following their traditional roles men fulfill masculine
roles such as being the initiator of sexual activity, while women
behave in accord with feminine roles such as being sex objects
(Stockdale, Visio, & Batra, 1999).
- Rejection behaviors, which include efforts to humiliate, punish, or debase the target
This theory proposes that during sexual harassment, two categories of
goals can be at play that apply to male and female harassers as well as
male and female targets. Approach motives involve efforts to develop a
closer relationship with the target.- Emotional motives
This are based on behavior that is directed toward making the harasser "feel good."
